Dr. Samantha Habhab is a fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. She graduated with honors from the University of Michigan with a bachelor of science in neuroscience and a minor in Near Eastern studies.
She received her medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she discovered her passion for ophthalmology. After medical school, she went on to rigorous and comprehensive training in ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit.
During residency, Dr. Habhab was awarded top scorer in the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program (OKAP) exam for three consecutive years. She authored several review articles on presbyopic treatments and presented her research project on patient outcomes in a combined ophthalmology-rheumatology uveitis clinic at the American Academy of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting.
After residency, Dr. Habhab completed a Cornea and External Diseases fellowship at the prestigious Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia under world-renowned experts in the field. She trained extensively in the full scope of corneal transplantation, including PKP, DMEK, and DSEK.
Dr. Habhab is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She has a special interest in medical and surgical cornea and cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Habhab is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care and the best possible treatments in vision correction. She considers it a privilege to help patients in such a meaningful way. In her free time, Dr. Habhab enjoys traveling, exercising, and spending time with her husband and daughter.
I wanted to join a group of talented, highly-trained physicians who share my outlook on patient care, and I found that with the doctors here. I was also interested in International Eye Associates’ dedication to innovation and willingness to adopt new technologies. The team is well-trained, supportive, and committed to the same common goal of providing patients with the highest-quality care.
I love using my hands, which drew me to a procedural and surgical-based specialty. I also enjoy the intricacies of the eye, the ability to directly visualize pathology, and the integration of technology in ophthalmology. The gratification of helping patients see clearly is what fuels my passion for this field.
I can help patients struggling with their vision feel reassured and offer the best possible treatments for correction. Restoring vision makes a huge difference in people’s lives. I love being my patients’ advocate and helping them with whatever visual challenges they may face.
I dedicate the time to my patients to ensure they feel cared for and give them a space to address their concerns. I like to make every patient feel important — because they are! I treat them like family members. I make sure that they leave understanding their underlying condition and how to move forward with treatment. No question goes unanswered!
I am always excited about new lens options for cataract surgery. We are constantly seeing innovations as far as the range and quality of vision lenses can provide, and I look forward to offering them to patients. I’m also excited about the continuous advances in partial-thickness corneal transplants that will expedite visual recovery and improve outcomes compared to traditional full-thickness transplants.
I’m very busy with work and being a new mom, but I enjoy traveling, cooking, and baking when I have the time. I love spending time with my husband and daughter, exercising, and getting my “me time” on the Peloton. My husband and I also enjoy theater arts and attending live shows, musicals, and plays together.
